Selecting a Personal Injury Attorney

December 19th, 2009

A personal injury attorney in an city or state usually provides the same types of services that other personal injury attorneys do, but they will be more in touch with their specific locations rules and procedures. In many cases an individual may have an injury case and not be aware that they have the option of getting an attorney that can help them through the judicial system.

One of the most common personal injuries that occur to people is slips and falls in public areas. These falls usually are the result of a wet floor or surface which has not been properly marked or cordoned off. When the slip and fall occurs an individual will usually be very embarrassed and rise quickly. Or they will be helped up by staff who then take them to the manager’s office.

Once an individual is in the office of a manager they are normally asked to sign a waiver relieving the store or office from any liability for the injury that has occurred. This is a common practice and many people sign the waiver without thinking about it. However, this can be the wrong thing to do.

It is important when one has been injured in a slip or fall in a public place that they do not sign anything without first consulting a lawyer. There are many instances when an individual may not begin to feel the extent of their injury for days after the injury has occurred.

In some cases when a slip or fall occurs in a governmental building there will be medical personnel on hand who will affirm that an individual is OK and then they will be asked to sign a waiver. It is important to remember that these individuals are paid by the company employing them and may not be looking out for the injured person’s best interests.
